One question, both answers
The same question, asked on each plan.
A member wanted a rosemary substitute high in 1,8-cineole. Lite named the swap and one alternative in two short paragraphs. Premium checked the current batch of every oil, named the percentages, and ranked the options.
What is an oil high in 1,8-cineole that is a good sub for rosemary, but is not cajeput, ravintsara, or cardamom?
A strong substitute for Rosemary that is high in 1,8-cineole, but is not cajeput, ravintsara, or cardamom, is Eucalyptus globulus. Eucalyptus globulus typically contains around 54 to 55% 1,8-cineole, making it an excellent match for the respiratory and stimulating qualities of rosemary. It is commonly recommended as a substitute for rosemary in blends where the 1,8-cineole content is key, especially for respiratory support and mental clarity. [1]
Another option is Niaouli (Melaleuca quinquenervia ct. 1,8-cineole), which is also high in 1,8-cineole (around 50%) and is often used as a rosemary substitute in both respiratory and immune blends.
Would you like a recipe using Eucalyptus globulus or Niaouli as a rosemary substitute?

What is an oil high in 1,8-cineole that is a good sub for rosemary, but is not cajeput, ravintsara, or cardamom?
Checked data.aromatics.comA strong substitute for Rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) that is high in 1,8-cineole, but is not cajeput, ravintsara, or cardamom, is Eucalyptus Radiata (Eucalyptus radiata). In Aromatics International's current batch, Eucalyptus Radiata contains 62.22% 1,8-cineole, one of the highest natural sources of this component. [1] It has a fresh, camphoraceous, slightly sweet aroma and is used for the same respiratory and mental clarity purposes as rosemary.
Other good options, all high in 1,8-cineole and not on your list:
- Helichrysum gymnocephalum (Helichrysum gymnocephalum), 60.33% 1,8-cineole [2]
- Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus globulus), 54.75% 1,8-cineole [3]
- Hyssop ct 1,8-cineole (Hyssopus officinalis var. decumbens), 53.54% 1,8-cineole
- Niaouli ct 1,8-cineole (Melaleuca quinquenervia ct 1,8-cineole), 48.71% 1,8-cineole
Of these, Eucalyptus Radiata is the mildest and the most widely used rosemary alternative for respiratory and focus blends, including for children and sensitive individuals. Niaouli is the classic rosemary substitute in French aromatherapy.
The full ranking of oils high in 1,8-cineole, with batch data, is at data.aromatics.com. [4] Figures are current as of September 8, 2026, and other suppliers' oils may differ.

Who each plan is for
Three people who ask Thymely.
The home blender
Ten to thirty oils on a shelf. Rollers, inhalers, and diffuser blends for the family. One question at a time, usually in the middle of a recipe. What can I use instead of black spruce. Is this safe for the dog. A blend for sleep. Wants the recipe written out and the answer in under a minute. Keeps the Recipes app on the phone.
LiteThe recipe expert, with 10% off every bottle.
The student
Enrolled in an aromatherapy certification program, or about to be. Asks why. Which molecule makes lavender relaxing. How to explain it to a client. What an aldehyde is. Lite answers and names the lesson. Premium opens the lesson and the component profile, and takes 15% off the next course.
LiteStart here. Move up any day, prorated.
The practitioner
Formulates for clients and in batches. Twelve tins of salve. A 2% blend across ten ingredients. A perfume class with four substitutions. Needs the current batch's chemistry, a research citation, and a safe answer for someone with kidney disease or at the end of life. Works in sessions, not single questions. Belongs in the practitioner community and needs the continuing education credits.
PremiumThe whole library, the lab, and the membership.
